If you love renaissance architecture you will definitely like this castle. It nice to know the history behind this majestic place 🙂 This castle has been very well preserved and you can see it on the wall, ceiling and painting inside. Interesting to know. Just make sure to get a guided tour to understand it well. You might find it boring if you are alone but the surroundings are really nice especially the lake Vättern on the Summer time. Don’t forget to visit this place and include on your castle bucket list 🙂

Gripsholm Castle – Mariefred,Sweden

Gripsholm Castle is located in Mariefred, on the lake Mälaren, about an hour drive from Stockholm and 3 hours drive from Grästorp (where I live right now lol). Last week my husband and I recently had the pleasure to visit and check this castle but our original plan is to wander around Stockholm and guess what!! we ended up checking the Gripsholm Castle instead and we didn’t regret it at all :).  The trip was well worth it we didn’t bother the long butt-aching drive from Grästorp. I asked the lady in the front desk if it’s okey to take a picture inside and they said “yes” (just to make sure lol!)

The mighty tower of Gripsholm Castle

The Castle itself is really beautiful and magnificent. Very well preserved and really kept in a good condition with many rooms to see. Also known as Gustav Vasa’s Castle. It is one of the finest remaining example of Swedish architecture of the Vasa dynasty founded by King Gustav and combines with renaissance interiors but still remains essentially medieval. It has a fantastic view from the lake-side. The ground is absolutely calm and peaceful its good to walk and feel the breezy air after we have been inside the castle.

Old brown bricks is so beautiful! and a fairy-tale style well like this is lovely

Tjolöholm Slott – Halland, Sweden

My boyfriend and I always plan for an unusual things to do everyday and visiting old castle is always on top of our list 😊. Since we visited Gräfsnäs Castle and Läcksö Castle already we come up to look for another one and that is Tjolöholm Castle in Halland,Sweden.

The Castle is open to the public throughout the years and you can check on their website for some calendar activities and some exceptional dates when they are close HERE IS THEIR SITE 👈

Tjolöholms Slott, Halland

We went there yesterday because of their traditional large Christmas Market called Julmarknad på Tjolöholm and this year is their 26th year. For a days, small shops and food seller from different part of Sweden visit there to sell their food delicacies and unique works. They also offer some free taste of their products which I really really like 😂  meats, cheeses, jellies, candies, nuts and julmust and many more.

We really like this different flavors of fudge yums!😋

During the night you can see the castle shines with lot of Christmas lights (see picture below).

I love this place!

Gräfsnäs Castle Ruins – Sollebrunn,Sweden

The second castle we visit is Gräfsnäs Castle. This castle is very old. Originally built in the 16th century and according to an old tale/legend, this castle is cursed by a woman that was badly treated by the landowner. She cursed the castle that no family would own it for more than three generations, and cursed was laid upon it that it would burn three times with 100 years between each fire and so it did happened 1634, 1734 and 1834. They say after the fire in 1834 no-one bothered to rebuild it again and it has been a ruin ever since.

There are few vaulted halls are still intact and you can walk around and see the other part of its castle. Some part is still close for renovations.
