Swedish Citizenship Application – Citizenship Journey

Today is the day that I will send my Swedish Citizenship application through post, although I already apply it online (it is a requirement and it a must!). I’amĀ  a bit nervous about it but at the same time my heart is full with excitement!Ā  I can’t help thinking about what will gonna happen next (think positive Michelle!).

This is it pansit! Goodluck to meĀ šŸ˜Š

Anyway highway! before I decided to apply for my citizenship this year, I did a couple of research on my own because I wanted to make sure if I am really eligible to apply for it.Ā  Someone told me I needed to reside here in Sweden for 5 years, some of my friends say 3 years with permanent permit and other say to try my luck and send LOL!Ā I have lot of Filipina friends who had recently applied for their Swedish citizenship and surprisingly their stories where extremely different to one other. Some was approve in only a weeks, some takes months and some still had not yet hear any response to their application. So confusedĀ  about it so I headed to the Migrationsverket site to gather more informationĀ šŸ˜‰ a 100% detailed I must say LOL. If you like to know more you can check theĀ SITEĀ Ā šŸ‘ˆ

Basically what it said in the site is that you have to fullfill a certain requirements for becoming a Swedish citizen:

ā— You must be able to prove your identity
ā— You have reached the age of 18
ā— You have fulfilled the required period of residence here
ā— Have you conducted yourself well here in Sweden
ā— Have a permanent residence permit, a right of residence or residence card in Sweden.

* If you are married to, living in a registered partnership with or cohabiting with a Swedish citizen, you can apply for Swedish citizenship afterĀ three years. In these cases, you must have been living together for the past two years.Ā It is not enough to be married to one another, you must also live together.

CFO Guidance and Counseling Program (GCP) | FiancĆ©(e)ā€™s, Spouses, and Partners

Well, my last STEP before I say “bye Pinas!“. When I got Ā my residence cardĀ  the consulateĀ remindsĀ me to attend a seminarĀ at CFO (Commission onĀ Filipinos Overseas) to get theĀ CFO CERTIFICATE and EMIGRANT STICKERĀ on my passport (REQUIRED and its a must!!). They inform me that the immigration officer at the airport will check this document together with my visa before my departure so I need to secure and provide these documents.

I wanted to be ready with all the importantĀ documents so I apply for my schedule instantly hahaha because, I didn’t want to experience being held for questioning on the day of my departure which is too much hassle or might get worst to be offloaded on my plane!.. which I don’t want to happen on me lolĀ šŸ˜ƒ

Step-by-Step [How to Report your Marriage in Philippine Embassy-Sweden-Pinay]

What is Report of MarriageĀ (ROM)? Report of Marriage is a requirement for Filipino overseas who have contracted a marriage abroad whether to a fellow Filipino or a foreign spouse. Some of us who have gotten married overseas are unaware of this step. Some couples forget to process it and some tend to skip on doing it because it takes too much time, money and stressful days (I must say LOL!). It was a bit hassle, though, but in reality, doing this will save you from any trouble later on.

Just a heads-up guys! You should report your marriageĀ within a yearĀ or it will be considered asĀ late registration. You have to do it as in NOW!! don’t waste time, because Report of MarriageĀ (ROM)Ā is one of the requirements needed for applying dual citizenship or if you want to change you Philippine passport to your married name.

I could only imagine the hassle my husband and I went through just to Report our Marriage in Phil. Embassy in Norway, whereas me was in the Philippines while him is in Sweden (we’re back in LRD that time since my visa is already expired and we’re in the process of applying my RP visa and my passport is about to expire! ugh! so much stress that time!). I hope to reach out and help out people who are confused and clueless about the process. I hope my step by step procedure will help you out šŸ˜Š.

Since the Embassy of Philippines in Stockholm is now closed, we just; follow the instructions we found in the site of Philippine Embassy in Norway (Oslo). According to the instruction of the Philippine Embassy in Norway:

ā— Check site for further information/REQUIREMENST and FEES of application:

TAKE NOTE:Ā All documents NOT in English must be accompanied by an English translation. So kung hindi english ang Marriage Certificate mo, kailangan mo muna itong ipa-translate sa legal translator at ipa-notaryo at ipa-authenticate sa Ministry of Foreign Affairs kung saang bansa kayo kinasal. If everything is set at completo na lahat pwede na kayo magpasa ng documents nyo.

ā— Check my post (below) for further information how we translate our Swedish MC

Step-by-step-how-to-Marriage-in-Sweden-Translate

After we gathered all the important documents needed, we sent our marriage certificate (English version and Swedish version along with other required documents) inĀ Embassy of Philippine in Oslo Norway. This is how the Report of Marriage looks likeĀ (picture below).

The Embassy will forward one copy of the Report of Marriage to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the Philippines. Another copy will be kept as part of the Embassyā€™s records and aĀ third copy will be given to the applicant.

They will return back one copy of your ROM na may signature and seal na natatak na siya (that is your own personal copy)

Report of Marriage from the Embassy (personal Copy)
